I was very surprised by this. I don’t think HBO has ever drastically changed the opening credits to an ongoing show, like they’ve done here. I was expecting the Beach Boys and ice skating, which I’ve always liked, but I see this as a welcome change. The song is “Home” by UK band, Engineers. It’s a nice sort of “loss of control” metaphor that blends well with the show’s main themes of uncertainty. It also serves to ring in the “post-Roman” age. I also find it reminiscent of the “Six Feet Under” intro on account of the closeup of the hands. Here, they come towards each other, while the move apart in 6FU.
