Justin Timberlake – Hallelujah

JT covering Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah for the Haiti Telethon. Does justice to this beautiful song:

And probably the best known version of this song, by the late Jeff Buckley:

Fuck Buttons – Surf Solar

Off the hook electro.

Real Estate – Beach Comber

Vampire Weekend – Giving Up The Gun

From their brand new LP, Contra, released this week. It rocks!

The Antlers @ DC’s Black Cat

The Antlers perform tracks from their gutwrenching album, Hospice.

New “Big Love” opening credits!

I was very surprised by this. I don’t think HBO has ever drastically changed the opening credits to an ongoing show, like they’ve done here. I was expecting the Beach Boys and ice skating, which I’ve always liked, but I see this as a welcome change. The song is “Home” by UK band, Engineers. It’s a nice sort of “loss of control” metaphor that blends well with the show’s main themes of uncertainty. It also serves to ring in the “post-Roman” age. I also find it reminiscent of the “Six Feet Under” intro on account of the closeup of the hands. Here, they come towards each other, while the move apart in 6FU.

The original opening used for seasons one through three:

Panda Bear – Take Pills

AnCo’s Panda Bear wants you to take narcotics.

Hot Chip – One Life Stand

Joni Mitchell – River

One of her signature tunes. Describes Christmas time, though not really a Christmas song.
